Dear Friends,
I'm holding my second Tax Teach In – this time at the Lou Walker Senior Center – on Monday, February 12 from 6-8 PM.
It's part of a nationwide effort to communicate to constituents what the GOP tax plan means to families, jobs and economic growth. We've invited academics, policymakers, the health care community and local governments to participate.
Dear Friends,
Thank you to everyone who attended our Tax Teach In in Lilburn on Jan. 13. We had a robust discussion of the issues around the new tax plan. I also want to thank all our panelists -- Wesley Tharpe, research director of the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute; Caroline Fohlin, professor of economics at Emory University; Louis Partain of the AFL-CIO; Ian McCarthy, assistant professor of economics at Emory University; Thomas Smith, associate professor of finance at the Goizueta Business School, Emory -- for attending and imparting their wisdom.
Dear Friends,
I hope and trust you had an enjoyable holiday season and a Happy New Year.
At the end of 2017, my friends on the other side of the aisle push through a massive overhaul of our tax code. They did it behind closed doors with little input and no public hearings.
Dear Friends,
Today, I vehemently and adamantly voted NO on the Republican tax scam that gives 83 percent of the tax cuts to the wealthiest 1 percent while raising taxes on 86 million middle income families.
Make no mistake about it -- the numbers prove that this is a tax cut for the wealthy and not for the middle class. Anyone who tries to deceive the American people into thinking otherwise -- shame on you.
Dear Friends,
While preparing for the holiday season, you may have heard that Republicans are working to deliver "gifts" to working Americans that raises taxes on tens of millions of middle-class families in order to hand deficit-exploding giveaways to corporations and the richest 1 percent.
The GOP tax scam includes ways to repeal the Affordable Care Act and ransacks Medicaid and Medicare of $1.5 trillion. President Trump has described his tax legislation as a great Christmas gift for Americans, but it is more like the "Grinch Who Stole Christmas."

Dear Friends,
Becoming a homeowner can be one of the most memorable moments of our lives. In 2010, the Hardest Hit Fund (HomeSafe Georgia) was established by the federal government to provide foreclosure help to homeowners that were hit the hardest by the steep decline in home prices and rising unemployment rates. HomeSafe Georgia was established by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) to administer the Hardest Hit Funds designated to Georgia.
