FEBRUARY 7, 2018 E-Newsletter
Dear Friends,
I'm holding my second Tax Teach In – this time at the Lou Walker Senior Center – on Monday, February 12 from 6-8 PM.
It's part of a nationwide effort to communicate to constituents what the GOP tax plan means to families, jobs and economic growth. We've invited academics, policymakers, the health care community and local governments to participate.
We had a robust discussion of the issues around the new tax plan in our first tax town hall in Lilburn last month. For more information, call my district office at 770-987-2291 or visit my Facebook page to let us know you plan on attending. Hope to see you there.
STOPGAP FUNDING: The House voted on its fifth short-term, stop-gap funding bill this week to keep the government open for another six weeks. While I'm pleased this bill funds our community health centers, such as Oakhurst Medical, this is no way to run a government. I'm disappointed with my colleagues, who are using the health programs as political pawns to get their way on lower funding for nondefense programs. It's a really cynical attempt to distract Americans from the fact that they are systematically undermining the social safety net. I will fight any cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and our healthcare programs. I look forward to considering what the Senate produces and sends back to the House today.
TELEPHONE TOWN HALL: I want to thank everyone who participated in our telephone town hall last week. I called more than 40,000 residents to hear from constituents what their most important issues and concerns are and what they would like me to work on in 2018. We discussed healthcare, immigration, gun violence policy and much more, including protecting Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. To listen to the call in its entirety, click HERE.
APP CHALLENGE: We had a record-smashing 77 entries in our third annual Congressional App Challenge this year. The reception was held on Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Fernbank Science Center. This was a great event and competition that continues to grow each year. Thank you to all our participants, their parents, judges and partners!
