Dear Friends, I want to wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving. I'm back in town this week meeting with constituents and I'm looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with my family as well. I thoroughly enjoyed participating in recent events to kick off the 2018 open enrollment period for affordable healthcare. Millions of Americans lack quality, affordable, critical healthcare coverage. Visit www.healthcare.gov to find out how to enroll in health insurance and compare plans to find the most accommodating plan for you and your family. The website is also available in Spanish at www.cuidadoDeSalud.gov. I also had the distinct honor of recognizing our courageous veterans who live throughout the district, when I served as the guest speaker at the Veterans Affairs Advisory Board of DeKalb County's 2017 Veterans Day Program. Just as we vow to leave no soldier behind on the battlefield, we vow to leave no veteran behind-when they return home. Congress is still working towards fulfilling the nation's responsibilities to the veterans of this country. Just this month, the VA launched the Rapid Appeals Modernization Program, or "RAMP." The goal of the program is to give veterans a review of a decision on an appeal much faster than the traditional appeals process. TELE TOWN HALL: On Tuesday, Nov. 21, I held a telephone town hall from my district office. More than 45,000 Fourth District residents were contacted to hear their thoughts on the GOP tax legislation that independent economists say will raise taxes on millions of middle-class households. In fact in Georgia, nearly 890,000 households earning less than $146,000 would see a tax increase as a result of this bill. I spoke with residents for more than an hour and truly appreciated the opportunity to talk with my constituents on the possible results of this selfish, reckless bill—which among other things, ransack Medicaid and Medicare; proving that some Republicans in Congress will do anything to reward their wealthy campaign donors and once again push through another form of trickle-down economics for the American people.
