Congressman Hank Johnson's Nov.1, 2017 E-Newsletter

November 1, 2017

Dear Friends,

Becoming a homeowner can be one of the most memorable moments of our lives. In 2010, the Hardest Hit Fund (HomeSafe Georgia) was established by the federal government to provide foreclosure help to homeowners that were hit the hardest by the steep decline in home prices and rising unemployment rates. HomeSafe Georgia was established by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) to administer the Hardest Hit Funds designated to Georgia.

As housing values increase and foreclosures decline, attention is now being focused on homeowners who are “underwater” on their homes. This term refers to homes that appraise for less than the mortgage principal that is owed.

Assistance is still available for eligible homeowners through HomeSafe Georgia’s Mortgage Principal Reduction Program, which offers two options; Underwater Georgia and Mortgage Payment Reduction (Also Known As Recast).

If you have received a post card in the mail from DCA, you might qualify for assistance. In an effort to touch homeowners in targeted geographical areas, HomeSafe will be hosting events from Nov.2 – Nov.8.

Additionally, for previous or first time homebuyers, financial down payment assistance is available through HomeSafe Georgia’s Georgia Dream Program.

Please join me in getting the word out so the people who need it most can get the funds they need, and to provide potential homeowners with the knowledge they need to make homeownership a reality.
