WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) today introduced The Coal Ash Landfill Safety Act (CALSA) – H.R. 4827 – to protect citizens from dangerous coal ash that will be disposed in municipal landfills that are not equipped to handle the toxic substance.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, President Obama announced that he is nominating D.C. Circuit Court Chief Judge Merrick Garland to serve as the next Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Rep. Johnson called on the Senate to hold a fair hearing and timely vote on Judge Garland’s nomination to the Supreme Court.
“With the nomination of Chief Judge Merrick Garland, President Obama has selected a widely admired and deeply experienced jurist with a sterling judicial record,” said Rep. Johnson.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04) sent the following letter to U.S. Commission on Civil Rights urging them to recommend that more be done to protect citizens from the possibility that noxious coal ash could be disposed of in municipal landfills that are not equipped to handle the toxic substance. Unused coal ash contains toxic chemicals, including cancer-causing agents.
