Congressman Johnson is a senior member of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee (T&I). Congressman Johnson has focused on transportation equity – which will ensure that low income Americans will have access to safe and reliable transportation. In addressing critical infrastructure needs of Georgia, he states that "Federal investments should include funds supporting state efforts to add additional standard and HOV lanes to major highways in the metro Atlanta region as well as other major causeways throughout the state." He has been a strong advocate for MARTA rail expansion into south DeKalb. Congressman Johnson has led a push to prioritize public transit investments in Georgia.

Georgia's Democratic Congressional Delegation recently sent a letter to Emily Dunn, Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) chairwoman, urging the agency to expand public transit statewide.

The delegation urged GDOT to use funds from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which created flexibility in existing funding programs for states to invest in public transit.

McMurry raising concerns that the agency's planned expansion of the I-20 and I-285 interchange east of Atlanta in South DeKalb will exacerbate pollution and climate problems in the area and almost certainly be at the expense of the planning of heavy rail service down the I-20 East corridor.
