Speeches
DeKalb County Veterans Day Program, Friday, 4 November 2016, 11 AM
Thank you Lee for that kind introduction, and thank you to the DeKalb Veterans Advisory Board for inviting me here this morning.
Congratulations to our esteemed honoree today – Major General Maria Britt U.S. Army Retired. I look forward to your thoughts and hearing from all our speakers.
Today is a special day – or technically next Friday is a hallowed day – when we honored those who served.
This year’s theme is “Honoring Those Who Served: Excellence.”
Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
Today’s hearing is an important and welcome opportunity to discuss drug price competition in the market for treating opioid addiction.
Opioid addiction is a devastating public-health emergency in many of our communities.
Strongly linked to the prescription of opioid painkillers, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that opioids contributed to the deaths of 28,647 Americans in 2014.
Rep. Hank Johnson, Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee Regulatory Reform and Commercial Antitrust Law (RRCAL), gave the following speech during a full Judiciary hearing with U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
I find it both unsurprising and absurd that we are spending our valuable time talking about Hillary Clinton’s email and former President Bill Clinton – who I may remind you is not under investigation – while our country and our cities is facing its greatest challenge in racial politics.
By now we have all heard the news of the tragic loss of Governor Deal’s staffer, Mack Burgess in an accident earlier this week. Toby Carr and many others are attending his funeral today, which necessitated a change in the program. Our sincerest condolences go out to the family and friends.
I am honored to pinch hit because I have championed PCIDs’ efforts and been a partner with them since their inception 14 years ago.
Black men and boys killed by police.
I can't breathe
Impunity for the killers - no justice, no peace.
I can't breathe
Militarized police met peaceful protesters on their knees.
I can't breathe.
Weapons of war - a show of force on our streets.
I can't breathe.
Disenfranchised youth driven to violence as speech.
I can't breathe.
Cynical media think this makes great TV.
I can't breathe.
This cowardly Congress afraid of losing our seats.
Good morning everyone, I’m Congressman Hank Johnson.
Jerry, it has been such a pleasure working with you and all the members of GALEO.
You are a great organization that is making a huge difference.
You’re doing important work that must continue and grow!
I want you all to know that I am one of the members of Congress who is working hard to enact comprehensive immigration reform. The time is now, and I stand with my colleagues who are taking action to demand a vote. We will not let up!

“I strongly and unequivocally believe in an Open Internet.
