Dear friends,
This past week in Washington, we debated the budget. The American people want Democrats and Republicans to come together to solve our problems. I agree with Republicans that we must reduce the deficit and strengthen the middle class, and I believe we can do this. However, I disagree with Chairman Ryan and my Republican colleagues that we should do so on the backs of seniors and the middle class.
Dear friends,
As Congress continues to debate how we fund government, reduce the deficit and protect our commitments to low-income citizens and the elderly, I believe we must first look at closing loopholes and deductions enjoyed by corporations and the wealthy before we slash or irrevocably alter the social safety net.
I agree with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle – we must reduce the deficit. We can’t keep putting wars, prescription plans and tax breaks for the wealthy on the credit card.

Dear Friends,
I want to thank the Gwinnett League of Women Voters, The United Ebony Society of Gwinnett and the Annsbrooke Homeowners’ Association in Rockdale County for inviting me to participate in their community forums last week.
It was an honor to meet with constituents, answer the important questions of the day and listen to citizens’ concerns.
Our democracy works best when engaged and interested citizens come together to discuss the pressing issues facing our communities.
Dear Friends,
I was in Washington, D.C. earlier this week urging my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to return to Capitol Hill to work on the nation’s unfinished business from tax cuts to the deficit, the Farm Bill to saving the Postal Service.
Dear Friends,
It’s been a busy few weeks since I last wrote, and I have a lot to cover.
