Congressman files legislation that allows death row inmates the ability to introduce new evidence

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA), along with other Congressional leaders, today re-introduced the Effective Death Penalty Appeals Act, which would ensure that death row inmates have the opportunity to present newly discovered evidence of innocence.

Under current law, an inmate on death row can be stranded with no procedural options to stop their execution, even when there is compelling new evidence that he or she is innocent.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04) took bold action to build on the Affordable Care Act to lower health costs and prescription drug prices for all Americans by joining House Democrats to pass the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act. Today's vote comes days after the Trump Administration filed a brief asking the Supreme Court to strike down the entirety of the ACA.

Hank Johnson (GA-04) announced his support of H.R. 51 – a bill admitting the State of Washington, Douglass Commonwealth, named in honor of the great American statesman and nation's foremost abolitionist Frederick Douglass, into the Union as the 51st state and give it voting representation in the Congress and full local self-government.

DECATUR, GA – This week, Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04) celebrated his 2019 Congressional App Challenge winners via a virtual meeting with three graduates from Arabia Mountain High School in Lithonia.

Assitan Ndiaye of Decatur; Ayomikun Akin-David of Conyers; and Danait Issac of Stone Mountain: won the 2019 competition with their mobile application: RAMPAGE. The mobile app serves as a one-stop-shop for students to keep up with current events at their school, navigate through their campus and learn things that benefit them according to their grade level.
