WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) announced that the Georgia Community Action Association, Inc. (GCAA) has been awarded $1.2 million as part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Diaper Distribution Demonstration and Research Pilot (DDDRP). This federal funding will enable GCAA to expand its efforts to provide essential diaper supplies to families with low incomes, addressing a critical need for infants and young children across Georgia.

CONYERS, GA – Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) issued the following statement after closely monitoring the BioLab fire in conjunction with local, state and federal officials, meeting with affected residents and considering the plant’s safety record:

“As the number of people living in and around Conyers and the surrounding area continues to grow, this plant – which stores toxic chemicals – has become a threat to public health and should no longer be allowed to operate at its current location,” said Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04).

Lawmakers Encourage Expanded Medicare Beneficiary Vaccine Access 

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) and Nydia M. Velázquez (NY-07), co-chairs of the Hepatitis Caucus, sent a letter to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services urging them to expand access for seniors to the hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccination.

During Black Maternal Health Week, Georgia Democrats led by Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) partnered with the Centers For Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). Together they released a video raising awareness of the fact that Black women in Georgia and nationwide are three times more likely to die from pregnancy than White women. Georgia has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the country.

Congressman Honors Former Staff Member Diagnosed With Chordoma 

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) announced today that he reintroduced a resolution to raise awareness of a rare form of cancer called chordoma after a former member of his staff was diagnosed with the rare condition last year.  

Classified as a rare cancer of the spine and skull, chordoma is diagnosed in just 1,000 people worldwide every year, 300 of whom are in the United States.

The resolution honors courageous children and adults, who live with the autoimmune condition and must often overcome harassment and bullying.

Congressman Johnson (GA-04) visited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Chamblee Campus as part of a tour of his district during the August work period. The visit included a campus tour and a roundtable discussion with CDC leadership and subject matter experts to discuss the agency’s work in sickle cell disease, hepatitis c and HIV/AIDS, including the important work being done in Georgia.  The Congressman’s visit concluded with a tour of CDC’s environmental health laboratory.
