WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04) was named this week to the Congressional Monitoring Group on Labor Rights in Colombia, which is led by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and seven other members of Congress.

Johnson was named to the leadership group because of his commitment to improve the protections and conditions of labor and human rights for the people of Colombia. Johnson led efforts in 2011 to ensure worker and minority rights in Colombia ahead of the U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Congressman Johnson welcomes return of 2012 Congressional Arts Competition; Scholarships worth up to $10,000 at stake

LITHONIA – Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04) looks forward to hosting this year’s 2012 Congressional Arts Competition, an annual event displaying the community’s finest artistic talent.

Eligible high school students throughout the district, which include parts of DeKalb, Gwinnett, and Rockdale counties, are encouraged to apply and display their talent in this year’s contest.

I understand your concern about high gas prices. America's dependency on oil makes high gas prices extremely disruptive and costly. This is especially true in the Atlanta area where transit by car is sometimes the only option. I am working to reduce America's dependence on oil through a variety of measures, including providing sustainable transit options. The fuel market is extremely volatile and can be affected by a number of factors, including world demand, geopolitical events, weather and speculation.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04), co-chair of the House Rare Earth Caucus, made the following statement after President Obama announced the U.S. will join Japan and the European Union in a complaint at the World Trade Organization over Chinese limits on exports of rare earths:

“It’s important we hold trading partners accountable, particularly when manipulative practices create strategic vulnerabilities for the United States. China’s rare earth monopoly threatens our national security, jobs, and energy independence.”
