It’s hard to believe the summer is nearly over, kids are back at school and fall is around the corner. It’s been a busy August so let’s jump right in.
Rep. Johnson (GA-04) released the following statement after President Obama’s remarks on Syria this afternoon:
LITHONIA, GA – “I don’t believe the President needs Congressional approval to conduct limited strikes in Syria, however I respect his decision to seek authorization. At this time, I am deeply skeptical that use of force is in our national interest.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04) attended a White House reception on August 27 and on August 28, President Barack Obama’s address at the Lincoln Memorial in honor of the 50th anniversary of The March on Washington.
President Obama spoke during the “Let Freedom Ring Call to Action” commemoration hosted by the King Center, signaling a nationwide bell-ringing that capped off the week-long celebration.

WHEREAS, today we pause to recognize a virtuous woman of God whose actions, thinking and spirit blessed the lives of the children, parents, teachers and support staff of not only the Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy, but the hearts of citizens across America; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Antoinette Tuff on August 20, 2013 gave of herself to calm and diffuse an incredibly dangerous situation that could have devastated our community and our Nation; and

LITHONIA, GA – Today, Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04) marked the 48th anniversary of the landmark Voting Rights Act. President Lyndon Johnson signed this historic law on August 6, 1965. This law was enacted only after years of those in the civil rights movement marching and in some cases being beaten or dying for the right to vote. For 48 years, the Voting Rights Act has helped secure the right to vote for millions of Americans.
