U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson recognized military veterans who served in the post-Korean War era, including those who served in the Vietnam War, on Friday.

Johnson held an "Extending the Legacy" program at the Lou Walker Senior Center in Lithonia as part of commemorations of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.

In his opening remarks, U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson spoke about the SGI and its ongoing efforts under the leadership of Daisaku Ikeda to abolish nuclear weapons.

Rep. Johnson said that nuclear disarmament through multi-lateral dialogue is a fight worth fighting for the sake of all living beings.

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step," he said, citing the famous line by Lao Tzu. "Today is one step in that long journey toward a world without nuclear weapons."

U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson, a Democrat, said in a statement that pulling back the coverage would result in unintended pregnancies. He called it "mindless" when combined with the administration's proposal to cut back on a federal nutrition program for infants and children.

Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War at his "Extending the Legacy" program on Friday, June 2, 1 p.m., at the Lou Walker Senior Center in Lithonia.

The commemoration's primary objective, as penned by Congress, is to thank and honor the Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the nation. The commemoration recognizes all who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the period of Nov. 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975 and their families.

President Trump has suffered another defeat in the federal courts while trying to push through his "revised" travel ban. The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Donald Trump's ban of Muslims has no place in our country. I fully support the decision of the Fourth Circuit. The Fourth Circuit held that President Trump's Muslim ban," is "steeped in animus and directed at a single religious group."
