Press Releases
This is the fourth annual Immigrant Heritage Month. Each year, we take time in June to share and honor the inspirational, heart felt stories of our nation's immigrants.
I am proud to work with the immigrant communities in the Fourth Congressional District. One in particular is the Clarkston community. Clarkston has served as a safe haven for thousands of refugee families over the years and is home to a range of successful immigrant-owned businesses. The City of Clarkston is often referred to as "the most diverse square mile in America."
DECATUR, G.A.—U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04) has released the following statement after President Trump's decision to pull out of the Paris Climate Accord, a global effort to significantly reduce the effects of climate change:
President Trump's reckless and arrogant abandonment of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, signed by 193 of the world's 195 countries, is a historic blunder that places appeasement to fossil fuel interests over the health of our environment and its people.
LITHONIA, GA – Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04) will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War at his "Extending the Legacy" program on June 2, 1 p.m. at the Lou Walker Senior Center in Lithonia.
The commemoration's primary objective, as penned by Congress, is to thank and honor our Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the nation. The commemoration recognizes all who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the period of November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of duty location; and their families.
President Trump has suffered another defeat in the federal courts while trying to push through his "revised" travel ban. The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Donald Trump's ban of Muslims has no place in our country. I fully support the decision of the Fourth Circuit. The Fourth Circuit held that President Trump's Muslim ban," is "steeped in animus and directed at a single religious group."
The Supreme Court has ruled that North Carolina's plan to draw congressional districts qualified as racial gerrymandering, the drawing of districts upon racial lines, violating the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Congressman Johnson praises this ruling, believing that this case is a step in the right direction towards achieving true equality for all.
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congressman Hank Johnson, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, released this statement on the appointment of Robert Mueller to investigate Russian meddling:
On May 10, Congressman Hank Johnson hosted and moderated an event with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials and members of immigrant communities from DeKalb and Gwinnett County at Georgia Piedmont Technical College's Conference Center.
The meeting provided a rare opportunity for members of the community to air out their grievances with recent ICE operations, as well as the recent executive orders passed down by President Trump's administration.
