Congressman: Local groups to help get, keep veterans off the streets

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Hank Johnson (GA-04) today announced two Atlanta-based groups will receive more than $1.3 million from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to fight veterans’ homelessness in 2012-2013.

Action Ministries Inc. of Atlanta will receive $1 million and Decatur Cooperative Ministry Inc., $320,000 to provide financial and emotional support, as well as housing stability, for veterans in the Fourth District and throughout metro Atlanta.

African-American and Hispanic Borrowers Who Qualified for Loans and Were Charged Higher Fees or Rates or Were Improperly Placed into Subprime Loans Are Eligible for Compensation

WASHINGTON – The Department of Justice today filed the second largest fair lending settlement in the department’s history to resolve allegations that Wells Fargo Bank, the largest residential home mortgage originator in the United States, engaged in a pattern or practice of discrimination against qualified African-American and Hispanic borrowers in its mortgage lending from 2004 through 2009.
