Congressman Hank Johnson's E-Newsletter for Nov. 4, 2019
Dear Friends,
We have a busy week ahead in the district that includes meetings on gun violence, the 2020 Census, election security and preparing to celebrate Veterans Day on November 11. But one event in particular I want to bring to your attention is that we're holding a Twitter Town Hall from 3:30 to 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6 to discuss whatever is on your mind. Please use the hashtag #AskHank to participate. I look forward to seeing you @RepHankJohnson on Nov. 6 at 3:30.
TUCKER JOB FAIR IN HONOR OF VETERANS: On Thursday, Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Tucker Civic Association in conjunction with Rehoboth Baptist Church are holding their 5th annual Tucker Job Fair in honor of Veterans. The event is being held at Rehoboth Baptist Church, 2997 Lawrenceville Highway just outside I-285. Our office will have a table there along with 60 other vendors. For more information, visit their Facebook page HERE.
OPEN ENROLLMENT: November 1st marked the start of the 2020 open enrollment period for health insurance across the country. The good news is that despite Republicans at the state and federal level and the Trump Administration trying to kill the Affordable Care Act, prices for many plans on the Marketplace are going down and the number of plans available on the Marketplace are going up. Thanks to Obamacare, millions of Americans can once again access quality, affordable health care coverage for themselves and their families through the Affordable Care Act's Health Insurance Marketplaces. I have a link off my homepage to help people who do not currently have coverage find the insurance that's right for them. For more, click HERE.
CONGRESSMAN CONYERS: We lost another giant of the Congress last week when former Michigan Congressman John Conyers passed away at age 90. He was a civil rights pioneer and progressive giant. He co-founded the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), co-sponsored the Voting Rights Act and is the longest-serving African American in Congressional history. He led on the MLK holiday bill, reparations, and universal single payer health care, among many other forward-thinking, enlightened pieces of legislation. I'm attending his service today in Detroit. For more, click HERE.
BOEING 737 MAX: I recently had the opportunity to question Boeing's CEO and its chief engineer in the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee about their Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) that ultimately contributed to two airline crashes that killed 346 people this year. For more, click HERE.
WORK IN WASHINGTON: Last week on Capitol Hill, I voted in favor of critical legislation to protect our public lands – H.R. 1373, the Grand Canyon Centennial Protection Act; H.R. 2181, the Chaco Cultural Heritage Area Protection Act; and H.R. 823, the Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy Act. I also voted in favor of H. Res. 660, which establishes the procedure for the next phase of the House's impeachment inquiry. For more, click HERE.
As always, I appreciate your time and feedback. Please remember you can reach me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as well as by e-mails, phone calls and letters. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to represent you in Congress. Please help spread the word on the Tucker Job Fair in honor of Veterans on Nov. 7 and our Twitter Town Hall on Nov. 6. Thank you,
