When pressed by Rep. Hank Johnson about counterfeit goods available on Amazon -- from bogus medicine to car tires and dangerous kids products -- Bezos said the company does "a lot" to prevent the issue, including investments of "hundreds of millions of dollars" into systems to prevent it and a team of more than 1,000 people who address what he described as a "scourge."
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA), along with other Congressional leaders, today re-introduced the Effective Death Penalty Appeals Act, which would ensure that death row inmates have the opportunity to present newly discovered evidence of innocence.
Under current law, an inmate on death row can be stranded with no procedural options to stop their execution, even when there is compelling new evidence that he or she is innocent.

Hank Johnson, the U.S. Rep. for Georgia's 4th Congressional District, announced June 25 his 2019 Congressional App Challenge winners—three graduates from Arabia Mountain High School—in a virtual meeting.
According to Johnson's staff, the "App Challenge" was designed to encourage student participation in computer science and coding. The challenge was launched by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2015 and is a nationwide effort in which students compete against peers by creating an application or "app," for any device.

Stone Mountain, GA — More than 100 people took part in the city of Stone Mountain's March for Social Justice June 20.
The march was organized by city of Stone Mountain Mayor Pro Tem Chakira Johnson who said, "I organized the March for Social Justice in Stone Mountain after all the turmoil in America, with the most recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and Rayshard Brooks.
Rep. Hank Johnson, who represents Georgia's Fourth Congressional District, is being honored as a recipient of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Abraham Lincoln Leadership for America award.
The Abraham Lincoln Leadership for America Award recognizes members of Congress who demonstrate the bipartisan leadership to advancing policies that support America's small businesses and entrepreneurs.
"I am happy to accept this award, and pledge to continue fighting for good fiscal policy that lifts everyone up not just the privileged few," said Johnson.
‘In the minds of the public'
The bill also includes language from another senior Judiciary Democrat, Hank Johnson of Georgia, to limit the types of military equipment that can be transferred to local law enforcement. Johnson said he's introduced the bill every Congress since 2014 but it wasn't until the protests after Floyd's death, when police lined the streets with military-grade weapons, that "it popped up front and center in the minds of the public."
As part of the Judiciary Committee oversight hearing on Policing Practices and Law Enforcement Accountability on June 10, Rep. Johnson, a senior member of the Committee, highlighted the Justice in Policing Act of 2020, the first-ever bold, comprehensive approach to hold police accountable, change the culture of law enforcement and build trust between law enforcement and our communities.
