Dear Friends,

Friday, November 11, is Veterans Day.

Every Veterans Day, Americans come together to honor those who have served and sacrificed for our country around the world.

Hank_Troops2Our debt to them is immeasurable. Their sacrifices and the sacrifices of their families protect us and our freedom.

Thousands of American service members remain deployed abroad and thousands need us now that they have returned home. This week, we renew our commitments to the nation’s more than 2 million service members and reservists, their families, and 23 million veterans, including more than 770,000 here in Georgia and more than 50,000 in the Fourth Congressional District.

On Nov. 11, let us also honor the more than 4,400 Americans who have died in Iraq, the more than 1,800 who have died in Afghanistan, the 32,000 wounded in Iraq and the 14,600 wounded in Afghanistan.

With hundreds of thousands of veterans returning from foreign battlefields to face a tough economy at home, we must ensure that they get the support they have earned.

For veterans looking for work, the Department of Veterans Affairs will partner with Milicruit.com to sponsor a nationwide, online job fair tomorrow, Nov. 10, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. EST. Veterans can pre-register at https://www.veteranscareerfair.com. Registered veterans will be able to visit employer booths, view job openings, apply for jobs, watch employer videos and presentations, chat live with recruiters, and complete on-the-spot video interviews.

To date, more than 60 military-friendly national employers from both the private and federal sectors and more than 36,000 Veterans have registered to participate.

The Department of Veterans Affairs also announced this week that the maximum amount of Veterans Mortgage Life Insurance (VMLI) increased from $90,000 to $150,000, effective Oct. 1, under the Veterans’ Benefits Act of 2010. Maximum coverage will further increase from $150,000 to $200,000 after Jan. 1, 2012. For more information. visit the VA online.
