Rep. Johnson: The State of the Union and Small Business Survey

e-Newsletters

Dear Friends,

Last night, during his third State of the Union address, President Obama laid out a path for an economy that is built to last – an economy built on American manufacturing, American energy, skills for American workers and a renewal of American values.

The President has been clear – we need to do more to create jobs and help economic growth. But there are some encouraging signs as we begin to recover from the house of cards that collapsed in 2008: the economy has added 3.2 million private sector jobs over the past 22 months; American manufacturing is creating jobs for the first time since the late 1990s and the American auto industry is back.

We cannot go back to an economy based on outsourcing, bad debt and phony financial profits.

You and I both know that small business growth is one of the most important factors in putting Americans back to work and getting our economy moving.

One growing small business can transform an entire city block, hire new workers, draw in other business and impact a whole community. We know this works. We’ve seen it over and over again.

That’s why I’m working for small business growth. I'm proud that my Fairness and Transparency in Contracting Act to protect small businesses and help them compete is part of the "Restore the American Dream for the 99% Act.

And it’s why I want your input on what Congress can do to help your business grow. If you own a small business or just want to make suggestions on how to help small businesses, please take time to fill out the survey HERE.

In the coming months, we will be holding small business roundtables with federal agencies to inform qualified small business owners of opportunities to grow their business.

I support President Obama’s push to ensure we build a nation where everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share and everyone plays by the same rules. A nation where hard work pays off and responsibility is rewarded in an economy built to last.

Thank you. As always, I appreciate your time and welcome your feedback. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to represent you in Congress.
