Honoring Our Veterans & Their Families

Every Veterans Day, Americans come together to remember those who have served our country around the world in the name of freedom and democracy.

The debt that we owe to them is immeasurable. Their sacrifices and those of their families are the foundation of our freedom. Without the brave efforts of all the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen and their families, our country would not be free.

This summer, I was proud to support the Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act, or PACT Act — the most significant expansion of benefits and services for our veterans in more than 30 years.

The PACT Act is a comprehensive law that meets the challenge of toxic exposures for our veterans by expanding access to VA health care to post-9/11 combat veterans exposed to toxins. It also importantly grants presumption of exposure for veterans with rare cancers and COPD and other debilitating diseases.  And lastly, it creates a permanent streamlined process to ensure that future Secretaries will review and approve new exposures swiftly.

America made a promise to care for our veterans when they come home, and I am committed to making good on that sacred obligation. Members of my staff and I will honor veterans in several ceremonies, including at the East DeKalb at Bruce Street Senior Center on Thursday, Nov. 10 and on Sunday, Nov. 13 at Clarkston First Baptist Church.

The Walk of Heroes will also hold its annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Veterans War Memorial Park in Conyers, which is located inside Black Shoals Park at 2825 Black Shoals Road, Conyers. For more information, visit www.walkofheroes.org.

As always, I appreciate your time and feedback. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to represent you in Congress. Please take some time this weekend to honor our veterans. If you have any issues with a federal agency, please don’t hesitate to call my district office at 770-987-2291.
