Helping Tenants & Landlords During Pandemic

Dear Friends,

The eviction moratorium put in place by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to prevent people from being displaced during the pandemic expired on July 31, 2021. While in Washington, I was prepared to vote for an extension but a bill was not put on the floor for a vote.

Therefore, I'm redoubling my efforts to make sure the federal funds Congress has already provided to states and counties to help renters and landlords in need gets to the people who need it most in the Fourth District.

In DeKalb County this weekend, Superior Court Chief Judge Asha Jackson signed an emergency judicial order creating a countywide eviction moratorium for another 60 days. The 60-day extension will give local officials more time to get available federal funding out to distressed renters and landlords during what has turned out to be unfortunately a surging pandemic.

I'm urging other counties across Georgia and the country to follow DeKalb's lead in extending the moratorium locally so we can keep people struggling with back rent in their homes during a surge in the Delta variant and catch up on the back log of cases.

I've created a one-stop shop on my website so residents can easily locate resources and apply for assistance. I'll also be working with county and state agencies this month to hold virtual and possible in-person events to help connect residents in need with resources.

Residents in DeKalb and Gwinnett need to apply directly to their county programs – residents of Rockdale and Newton counties need to apply with the state's Department of Community Affairs.

As always, I appreciate your time and feedback. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to represent you in Congress. If you have an issue with a federal government agency, need help with an eviction or a foreclosure, please don't hesitate to call my district office at 770-987-2291. Thank you!
