Happy Thanksgiving!
I want to wish everyone and their families a Happy Thanksgiving with the hope that you and your loved ones can gather safely to celebrate our blessings.
At this time last year, I was writing to you about another tough year with the pandemic. I dealt with a bout of it myself at the beginning of this year. And while we still have many challenges, we have made significant progress. By getting shots in arms, money in people’s pockets, helping our children get back school safely and putting people back to work, it feels like together we have weathered the worst of the storm.
So, for this we can all be thankful.
PROTECT YOURSELF, LOVED ONES FROM COVID & THE FLU THIS SEASON
Speaking of thankful, I know many of you are looking forward to being with friends and family this holiday season. When you call your relatives to get that last-minute recipe, remind them to get their updated COVID vaccine and flu shots. Find free updated vaccine and flu shot information for everyone five or older at vaccines.gov.
SAFETY TIPS DURING THE HOLIDAYS
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is working overtime to keep families safe during this holiday season, particularly safety measures while cooking your turkey. For more on how to keep your family safe, visit the CPSC.
OPEN ENROLLMENT
Open enrollment for healthcare plans is running now through Jan. 15, 2023. If you are not covered through your job, Medicare, Medicaid or the military, you can enroll today through the Affordable Care Act and get covered. Visit HealthCare.gov today to explore a plan that’s right for you and your family.
TENANT-LANDLORD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM NOW CLOSED
The Tenant-Landlord Assistance Coalition (TLAC) program in DeKalb County that was funded by the American Rescue Plan to help prevent people from becoming homeless during the pandemic is now closed to new applications. Since February 2021, TLAC and several nonprofit organizations in DeKalb have distributed more than $61 million for eligible tenants and landlords.
