Happy Holidays
I wish everyone and their families a very Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa and a happy holiday season as we prepare to close out 2022 with high hopes for a fresh start in 2023.
Although 2022 was another challenging year, we have many victories to celebrate together as well – including passing laws to lower drug prices and health insurance premiums, investing billions in our crumbling infrastructure, and creating jobs building and running high-tech manufacturing facilities here at home. I was particularly proud to work with Sen. Jon Ossoff and pass bipartisan funding for our HBCUs that will help diversify our cybersecurity forces, lowering costs for consumers, turbocharging American research and development and ending our dependence on foreign manufacturers.
We codified marriage equality, passed landmark veterans’ healthcare benefits, pushed gun safety measures, increased protections for victims of domestic violence, and funded violence prevention in schools and stronger mental health services to name a few.
I continued my role as Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts holding the Supreme Court accountable to the American people by offering legislation to expand the court, require them to follow a code of ethics, establish term limits and urge the Chief Justice to address continuing ethical lapses emanating from the court.
But mostly I’m happy and proud to close out 2022 by being here with the people I represent to celebrate their achievements and hold up their accomplishments.
Last weekend, I held two events to recognize small businesses in the Fourth District and celebrate our Unsung Heroes in a ceremony honoring more than 25 community leaders who work day in and day out to make the Fourth District a better place.
I’m also proud to announce the 2022 winner of the Congressional App Challenge is Newton College & Career Academy senior Kevin Wadsworth, whose winning app, “The Vent Box,” was created so users can vent their emotions and frustrations and get help for any type of negative feelings they might be dealing with.
Lastly, I want to thank my staff for all their hard work and dedication to the people of our district. Every day, they work their butts off to ensure our constituents get the help they need to solve problems with their Social Security, Medicare, student loans, passports, issues with taxes and the IRS, veterans the care and benefits they deserve and anyone dealing with housing or homelessness issues.
On that note, I honored one of my district communications staffers Joshua Smith this week offering a resolution on the House floor to raise awareness of a rare form of cancer called chordoma after he was diagnosed with the rare condition earlier this year.
As always, I appreciate your time and feedback. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to represent you in Congress.
If you have an issue with a federal government agency, please don’t hesitate to call my district office at 770-987-2291. Thank you and have a safe and blessed holiday season and look forward to seeing you in the New Year!
