Congressman Hank Johnson's E-Newsletter for May 3, 2017
I want you to know that I will continue to fight against the Trump Administration and the Republican Party as they to try to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as “ObamaCare.” I will stand with my colleagues in opposition to the American Health Care Act, or “TrumpCare.”
As we work to reach a bipartisan agreement to avoid a government shutdown, I will not sacrifice the ACA, which provides healthcare for millions of Americans.
On April 14, I had an opportunity to survey, up-close, the I-85 bridge collapse site.
I want to commend the Georgia Department Of Transportation for coming together to get this essential job completed for our commuters ahead of schedule. As a ranking member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I believe this incident proves that the need for additional transit and other forms of transportation are critical, as well as enhancements to our roadways, improved safety; and better ways to facilitate traffic to accommodate the large volumes that pass through each day. For more information on my visit and my thoughts on the reconstruction of the site, click the title link above.
In honor of National Small Business Week, I invited Lithonia resident Jerry Myers to the nation’s capital on May 2 as my “Small Business of the Year” recipient for the 4th Congressional District. For more, click the title link above.
I had the honor to visit with and speak to a local Army Reserve training center here in the 4th district as they celebrated the Army Reserve’s 109 years of service to our nation. For more information on my visit, click the title link above.
During the month of April, I welcomed Congressional App Challenge Winners Jeebe Diop and Daniel Garner to the Capitol for the second annual Congressional App Challenge Reception. The two Rockdale Magnet School students showed off their game, “Dungeon Delver II,” at the reception.
All winners received a portion of $50,000 in credits donated to the competition by Amazon Web Services and received recognition in their districts. To see a photo gallery of the event on my Facebook page, click the title link above.
