Congressman Hank Johnson's E-Newsletter for Feb. 9, 2016
I’m very pleased to announce that I’m holding my 2016 Resources Fair on February 18, 2016, at Georgia Piedmont Technical College in Clarkston from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Fair will help connect constituents with local, state and federal agencies that will provide job-readiness training, information on the television & film industry and employment opportunities.
The event will also include trainings for veterans, help for ex-offenders trying to overcome barriers to employment, résumé development, pathways out of poverty, interviewing skills, job readiness workshops and small business forums.
Nearly 9,000 young Georgians, who were not eligible to receive their high school diploma because they did not pass the Georgia High School Graduation Test, now have a new avenue to still get their degree. A recently passed law grants some students a waiver on the test depending on certain criteria. We’ll have school representatives on hand to help attendees determine whether they could benefit from this new law.
I’m committed to helping constituents who want to improve their lives and make the community a better place to live, work and play. Holding this fair is a great way to help people connect with the resources and opportunities that are available to them.
Participating entities include: Georgia Piedmont Technical College, Georgia State University, Brenau University, STAND Inc., MatterMax Media, MARTA, Delta Global Staffing, Baxalta, Bojangles, O'Reilly Auto Parts, MCS Industry Supply Company, International Union of Operating Engineers, DeKalb County Schools, HD Supply, Army Recruiting, Navy Recruiting, Newton County Sheriff’s Office, Veterans Administration, University of Georgia Small Business Development Center, Urban League of Greater Atlanta, DeKalb County Housing Authority, DeKalb County Family & Children Services, Goodwill, J.F & C.S, Democratic House Caucus.
