Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04) joined colleagues Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), Sen. Robert Menendez, other elected officials and leading women’s advocacy groups for a rally on Capitol Hill to mark the 40th Anniversary of Congressional passage of the Equal Rights Amendment. The requisite number of states failed to ratify the ERA before the final deadline mandated by Congress of June 30, 1982 expired, so it was not adopted. Rep. Johnson is a cosponsor of Congresswoman Maloney’s new Equal Rights Amendment.
