On tax day, Hank renews call for a fairer tax code for the middle class
Rejects GOP Plan for Higher Taxes on the Middle Class to Pay for More Tax Breaks for the Wealthy
LITHONIA, GA – On Tax Day, Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04) reiterated his call for Congress to take steps to restore tax fairness for America’s middle class families.
“For too long, our tax code has unfairly benefited the wealthiest Americans, while middle class families have struggled. Tax Day is the time for Congress to work together on tax reforms to fix this injustice. We must close tax loopholes, end special interest tax breaks, and reform the tax code to support the creation and retention of good-paying American jobs,” said Rep. Johnson.
“Instead of simplifying taxes to make them fairer, the Ryan Republican budget raises taxes by more than $2,000 per year on middle class families with children, to pay for more tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations shipping jobs overseas,” Rep. Johnson added. “Even as it cuts taxes for millionaires, the Ryan Republican budget betrays our seniors, devastates the education of our children, and destroys jobs.”
“With President Obama, Democrats have cut taxes for the middle class and small businesses to spur economic growth – working to budget an economy that works for everyone. And if we close loopholes to ensure that millionaires and corporations shipping jobs overseas pay their fair share, we can do more to strengthen the middle class, create jobs, invest in our infrastructure and our children’s education, close the opportunity gap, and responsibly reduce the deficit,” said Rep. Johnson.
