Rep. Johnson's statement on the Senate Confirming Kavanaugh for SCOTUS

October 6, 2018

DECATUR, GA -- Congressman Hank Johnson, a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, released the following statement after the Senate voted 50-48 to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court:

Today's confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh is an insult to women and an affront to notions of fair play and justice in America. The Senate disgraced itself by hiding behind a sham FBI investigation to justify confirmation. The Senate good ol' boys fooled no one with the Trump-directed sham investigation, and voters across the country will respond accordingly on November 6. Judge Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing performance was repulsive and disqualifying in and of itself. He is clearly unfit to sit as a judge on any court, let alone the Supreme Court. His confirmation etches an indelible stain on the nation's highest court, and on the Senate that confirmed him.
