Rep. Johnson's Statement on Iran Framework
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Link) – House Armed Services Committee Member Hank Johnson (Ga-04) made the following statement after a framework to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon was announced:
“It is welcome news that the U.S., it's international partners, and Iran have agreed on a deal to limit Iran’s nuclear program,” said Rep. Johnson. “While some of my colleagues have objected to negotiations with Iran, it must be noted that thanks to these historic diplomatic efforts, the world is further from a nuclear-armed Iran and the risk of war over this issue. Congress has passed, and I have supported, multiple rounds of sanctions legislation against Iran that has expressly granted the president the authority to waive or suspend sanctions. Bipartisan support for the president's agreement, which waives sanctions against Iran, is critical to ensuring that the agreement is successful in preventing a nuclear-armed Iran. I support President Obama’s efforts to peacefully address this critical issue.”
