Rep. Johnson's statement on Haiti
WASHINGTON – Wednesday, Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) released the following statement regarding a magnitude 7.0 earthquake (on the Richter scale) that occurred in Haiti on Tuesday. The earthquake’s epicenter was 14 miles outside of Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital city:
“My heart goes out to the Haitian people as they deal with the terrible aftermath of this devastating earthquake,” said Johnson.
“Already one of the poorest nations on earth, the beleaguered nation of Haiti will require the assistance of the United States in the coming hours, days and weeks. My office is monitoring the situation closely and will do whatever we can to assist in recovery efforts.”
