Rep. Johnson’s statement on Google putting Atlanta in the fast lane

January 28, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Rep. Johnson released the following statement after Google announced Tuesday that it will install fiber that will bring fast connections to homes in Atlanta and eight nearby cities, including parts of the Fourth District that he represents. As the top Democrat on the Judiciary Subcommittee with jurisdiction over competition and regulatory policy, Rep. Johnson has repeatedly called for greater deployment of high-speed broadband deployment throughout Georgia and in the Fourth District:

“I am pleased by the announcement that Google Fiber services will expand into the metro Atlanta area. This long-term investment in high-speed Internet services will have a positive impact on our schools, hospitals, job creation and overall community. I have long been an advocate of making high-speed Internet services available to all Americans and this is a step in the right direction. As the ranking member of the Regulatory Reform, Antitrust, and Competition subcommittee of the Judiciary Committee, I hope this will lead to a more competitive landscape that will make the Internet more accessible to Americans.”
