Rep. Johnson Joins Bill to Preserve Net Neutrality

March 7, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Hank Johnson¬ (GA-04) – ranking member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet and author of the Arbitration Fairness Act – issued the following statement after signing on to the Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to overturn the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) partisan decision on Net Neutrality:

"The FCC's wrongheaded decision in 2017 to undermine Internet openness through its rescission of net neutrality rules needed to be countered with legislation," said Johnson. "The time for strong net neutrality rules is now.

"Americans overwhelmingly support strong net neutrality rules, and the entire Internet ecosystem – consumers, content providers, and ISPs alike – stand to benefit from strong, bright-line rules that encourage the virtuous cycle of domestic capital investment, innovation, and competition through an open Internet.

"I strongly support Senator Markey and Congressman Doyle's efforts to ensure this virtuous cycle of innovation and competition with the CRA to protect the open Internet, and I implore my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to work toward and accept a bipartisan solution. I urge all stakeholders – consumers, industry, content providers and Congress – to come together to create a permanent legislative fix. The stakes are too high for anything less."
