Rep. Johnson Highlights New Report: Dangerous, Last-Ditch Trumpcare Bill Slashes Georgian’s Health Care

Press Release

Washington, D.C.– Today, Rep. Johnson highlighted a new state-by-state report showing Republicans’ latest Trumpcare legislation, which the Senate GOP hopes to rush to a vote next week, would be disastrous for Georgian’s health care in 2027 alone.

Federal funding for health coverage would be cut by $299 billion in that year alone, relative to projected spending on the Medicaid expansion, marketplace subsidies and the Medicaid program (outside of the expansion).

“The American people made their voices heard when they overwhelmingly rejected the immense increased costs and gutted coverage of Trumpcare this summer,” said Rep. Johnson.  “Now, Republicans are trying to force the devastation of Trumpcare on Americans once more, stealing billions of dollars from funds that keep health care affordable for millions of Georgia families. I stand with the people of Georgia to fight against the staggering costs and senseless cruelty of this bill.”

The extreme Graham-Cassidy version of Trumpcare would rip away the promise of affordable quality health care in America, creating devastating consequences for American families including:

  • Higher Costs, Less Coverage – Trumpcare forces families to pay much higher out-of-pocket health care costs, including deductibles. Trumpcare will take away some or all health care from tens of millions of hard-working Americans.
  • Key Protections Gutted – Trumpcare would gut key protections for people with pre-existing conditions, destroy essential health benefits, and reinstate the dreaded lifetime and annual limits on care.
  • A Crushing Age Tax – Trumpcare exposes older Americans to higher premiums than what others pay for health coverage, no matter how healthy they are
  • Stealing from Medicaid – Trumpcare ransacks funds that seniors depend on to get the long-term care they need.

“Republicans should be working with Democrats on productive, bipartisan action to stabilize the insurance marketplaces and drive down costs for families,” said Rep. Johnson.  “Instead, they are trying to deliver devastation to veterans, seniors, women, working families, people with pre-existing conditions and rural communities, just so they can hand out tax cuts for the wealthiest few.”
