Rep. Johnson on the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia
February 16, 2016
"I want to offer my condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Justice Scalia. It does tremendous damage to the legacy of such a strict constitutionalist like Justice Scalia, for senators and others who should know better, to suggest that politics be allowed to trump providence, and that President Obama not nominate a replacement for Justice Scalia. The President has a Constitutional duty to fill this vacancy, and the U.S. Senate has a constitutional responsibility to either confirm or deny that nomination. That is how our system works, and I am certain that if Justice Scalia were still with us, that he would see it that way."
