Congressman Helps Lead CBC Delegation for Historic Senate Confirmation Hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04), chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee that oversees the federal courts, attended the Senate Judiciary Committee first of four days of confirmation hearings for Ketanji Brown Jackson, the federal judge President Biden has picked to fill Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer's seat when he retires this summer. The Congressman issued the following statement:

"Judge Jackson has been confirmed by the Senate on a bipartisan basis three times," said Chairman Johnson. "This is Judge Jackson's fourth time before the Senate Judiciary Committee. I expect this nomination process to be no different. Our country is fortunate to have public servants like Judge Jackson, and I urge my colleagues in the Senate to continue moving forward with her fair and timely confirmation. As the hearings progress, the breadth and depth of Judge Jackson's legal career working at all levels of the justice system will be on display. You'll hear about her nearly decade of experience as a judge, where she wrote more than 570 opinions. Although listening to some Republicans on the committee, it appears they will make a spectacle of themselves as they attack the record of this eminently qualified jurist whom they have already confirmed for judicial roles not once, not twice but three times prior to this – her fourth confirmation hearing."
