Rep. Johnson announces U.S. Military Service Academy nominations

Congressman holds reception for Fourth District students at ART Station in Stone Mountain

CHJ_Acad_Nominees_webLITHONIA, GA – Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04) announced the 14 Fourth District students who have been nominated to attend a military academy – Army, Navy, Air Force and Merchant Marines.

To date, five students have received appointments to attend a military academy.

“The nomination process is not easy,” Rep. Johnson said. “It's a long road, and I congratulate all our nominees. All of our outstanding nominees are at or near the top of their class in academics, athletics and community service. It’s quite an accomplishment and all our students and their parents should be justly proud.”

Ms. Tra’Mese Byrd – U.S. Air Force Academy, Wesleyan High School *
Mr. Michael Eriksen – U.S. Air Force Academy, Westminster School
Mr. Daniel Gartrell – U.S. Naval Academy, Decatur, High School *
Ms. Princess Gibson – U.S. Air Force Academy, Columbia Magnet School
Ms. Christina Lanier – U.S. Naval Academy, Atlanta International School *
Mr. Jason Latimer – U.S. Military Academy, Salem High School
Mr. Cameron Loew – U.S. Military Academy, Berkmar High School
Mr. Thomas Penland – U.S. Military Academy, Chamblee Charter High School *
Mr. Connor Owens – U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Arabia Mountain High School
Mr. Sean Purcell – U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Tucker High School
Mr. Terrance Smith – U.S. Naval Academy, Marist School
Mr. Westley Williams – U.S. Air Force Academy, Shiloh High School *

* Students who have received appointments to date.
All members of Congress may nominate up to 10 candidates per opening. Academies usually make appointments by March 31 of each year. Those who attend a Service Academy must serve in the military for a minimum of five years after graduation.
