Rep. Hank Johnson's statement on the Keystone XL Pipeline
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Obama administration announced today that they have rejected the proposed Keystone XL pipeline. Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04) was one of 36 House Democrats who wrote the State Department in October of last year saying that the expected re-exportation of the Canadian oil would not enhance U.S. energy security.
“Republicans in Congress have no one but to blame themselves for the denial of the Keystone Pipeline application because of the arbitrary and artificial deadlines they imposed on the process. The Keystone Pipeline was never about jobs and energy independence – it was about taking the dirtiest oil on earth through a pipeline to the Gulf Coast and shipping that oil abroad. I’m glad President Obama stood up for the American people, the environment, clean air and for the health and well being of the people and wildlife living near the pipeline.”
