Oakhurst Medical honors Rep. Hank Johnson

Congressman receives recognition for contribution, commitment to health care issues

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA – Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) received a Certification & Recognition award from Oakhurst Medical Centers on Aug. 7 during National Health Care Week.

At its groundbreaking on a new $5 million health center complex in Stone Mountain, Rep. Johnson received the award for his “dedication to improving the health of every American.”

“Having access to quality care when dealing with my own health issues, I think everyone deserves the right to quality, affordable healthcare,” said Johnson, who fought and beat hepatitis C. “Community health centers like Oakhurst – the life blood of our communities – help make that possible.”

Johnson was Southeast Regional Whip during the push for President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010, which will insure 30 million more Americans and is the greatest federal effort in 70 years to reduce health disparities and close the health gap.

The Supreme Court recently upheld the law as constitutional. Oakhurst received the funds as part of $11 billion from the ACA that are going to community health centers nationwide.

Oakhurst CEO Jeffrey Taylor applauded Rep. Johnson’s efforts to help his local community health centers.

“Hank works in Washington for the people of his district,” said Taylor. “Nothing reflects that commitment more than his support for the Affordable Care Act, which helps us provide access to affordable, high-quality, cost-effective care to underserved communities.”
