Johnson: ‘We must ensure competition, innovation on the Internet’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Federal Communications Commission voted on Thursday to begin the process of formally setting new net neutrality rules for online traffic that could have major implications for how companies reach consumers on the Internet. Rep. Hank Johnson, ranking member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee with jurisdiction over antitrust and competition, released the following statement after the FCC vote:

“Chairman Tom Wheeler of the Federal Communications Commission held an open meeting today regarding net neutrality and the reclassification of broadband Internet services. As a strong supporter of an Open Internet and the ranking member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee with jurisdiction over antitrust and competition, I believe we must ensure that Internet Service Providers do not undermine competition and innovation by discriminating against certain content providers, traffic, or users on their networks. Today’s meeting was the first step of a deliberative and inclusive rulemaking process. I will continue to monitor the Commission’s progress and take appropriate action if necessary.”
