Hank's statement on the Republican budget proposal

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Hank Johnson (D-GA) today issued the following statement in opposition to the House Republican budget:

“House Republicans are doubling down on a strategy that ends the Medicare guarantee for seniors while giving a $150,000 tax break to millionaires.

While most of us agree that we need to rein in the deficit and address the debt, Democrats believe we get there by investing in job growth, maintaining Medicare and the social safety net, and responsibly reducing the deficit by asking everyone to pay their fair share.

Republicans and the Ryan budget is a scorched-earth approach that protects huge tax giveaways for big oil, slashes Medicaid, cuts support for seniors in nursing homes and endangers low-income children. And they do this while raising taxes on middle-income Americans to pay for big additional tax breaks for the wealthiest among us. This is a path to prosperity, prosperity for the 1 percent.”
