Congressman Johnson’s Statement on the 10th Anniversary of DACA

June 15, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) released the following statement to mark the tenth anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) initiative, established by President Obama on June 15, 2012:

"Today, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of President Obama's establishment of DACA, which provides legal protections for nearly 800,000 young immigrants, over 20,000 of whom live and work in Georgia. That group includes Dreamer constituents, like Cinthya Yamileth Moran, who has been a model volunteer in her community of Rockdale County and aspires to become a cardiovascular surgeon. We must also not forget that many of the Dreamers graduating high school this year are not eligible under the existing rules. We must do better. I stand with Cinthya and all my DACA brothers and sisters in celebrating the anniversary of this program, and I urge my colleagues in Congress to pass the Dream and Promise Act now so we can provide permanent protection for our young people and their families, who have done so much for this country."
