Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) today was elected Secretary of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC).

His term begins January 3, 2019 and lasts through the 116th Congress – ending Dec. 31, 2020. The Secretary of the CBC keeps minutes of all meetings, maintains a file of all official documents and records, ensures members are notified of meetings and works in conjunction with the chair to sign or endorse any agreements, checks, drafts or notes on behalf of the CBC.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to be elected by my peers to the leadership team of the Congressional Black Caucus – the conscience of the Congress,” said Rep. Johnson. “As Democrats assume the majority in the House next Congress, I look forward to using my position in leadership to expand and maintain the CBC’s historic role as not only the conscience of the Congress, but also as a force pursuing policies that positively impact our communities every day – access to health care and affordable prescription drugs, criminal justice reform, gun safety, environmental protection and equal access to a quality education.”
