Congressman Hank Johnson’s Statement on President Biden’s Embrace of Fundamental Court Reform Measures

Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04), ranking member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts and the chairman of the Court Reform Now Taskforce, issued the following statement applauding the Biden Administration’s announcement in support of key reforms to the Supreme Court:

“I applaud President Biden’s acknowledgement of the need for Supreme Court reform. Without a binding and enforceable code of conduct and with lifetime tenure, this power grabbing Supreme Court, while becoming corrupt and unaccountable, has upset the delicate system of checks and balances upon which our democracy rests.  President Biden also recognizes the grave danger caused by the Supreme Court’s decision granting near absolute immunity to future presidents. I look forward to working with the White House to enact meaningful court reform now, such as my Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal and Transparency Act, the TERM Act and other reforms necessary to restore trust and faith in our judiciary. No one is above the law, including the president or justices of the Supreme Court.”
