Congressman Hank Johnson's statement in defense of clean water
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- To protect clean water, the EPA is currently considering a rule to restore Clean Water Act protections to thousands of waterways in Georgia and across the country. Rep. Johnson released the following statement in support of the rule:
"From the Upper Chattahoochee River to local rivers and streams in my District, Georgia's water is vital to our health, recreation and wildlife. They're where our families go to swim, fish, canoe, kayak or enjoy the outdoors. They supply us with clean drinking water. We should be doing all we can to protect them. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is currently considering a rule to restore Clean Water Act protections to thousands of waterways in Georgia and across the country. When finalized, this rule will mark the biggest step forward for clean water in more than a decade. Out of concern of the people of my district -- and similar communities across the country -- I stand in support of this clean water rule. As ranking member of the Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law, we owe the country to implement a rule that keeps our water safe and maintains farmers’ ability to make a living. Like all things in nature, we must strike a balance."
