Advisory: Rep. Johnson to hold Conversation on Reducing Gun Violence

June 28, 2016

LITHONIA, GA – On Wednesday, June 29 at 11:30 a.m. in his Lithonia office, Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) will continue the conversation on gun violence that began on the floor of the House of Representatives last week. For 26 hours, House Democrats demanded that Speaker Ryan hold a vote on important measures to prevent tragedies like the one that took place recently in Orlando, FL.

In Congressman Johnson’s meeting with the Georgia Chapter of Moms Demand Action, they will discuss strategies to address mass shootings and everyday gun violence. The meeting is part of the House Democrats National Day of Action to reduce gun violence. On Thursday, Rep. Johnson is also meeting with a separate group of local mothers who lost their children to gun violence.

Rep. Johnson spoke twice during the sit-in on the House floor and he plans to take ideas and comments from the community and bring them back to Washington, D.C. Throughout the country House Democrats will meet with their constituents to discuss the gun violence epidemic and call on Speaker Ryan to bring up for an up-or-down vote common sense, bipartisan legislation to address the crisis.

Johnson has called on Republican leadership to allow for the consideration of The Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act – bipartisan legislation to expand and strengthen our background checks system and the bipartisan ‘No Fly, No Buy’ bill to keep guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists.
