Rep. Johnson's Statement on Supreme Court Ruling on GOP Lawsuit to Strike Down Affordable Care Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04), a champion of quality, affordable healthcare for all Americans, issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act in California v. Texas, a lawsuit brought by 18 Republican-led states – including Georgia -- and backed by the Trump administration seeking to completely dismantle the health care law:
“Today, for the third time, the Supreme Court has upheld the Affordable Care Act,” Rep. Johnson said. “The Court’s decision saves healthcare for about 21 million Americans and preserves protections for more than 135 million Americans with pre-existing conditions.
“This decision is a victory for common sense and for all American families, millions of whom can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their access to medical care is no longer threatened once again by Republicans’ maniacal drive to strip them of their healthcare. Having now lost in the Supreme Court for the third time, Republicans would be wise to end their efforts to dismantle the Affordable Care Act once and for all. After hundreds of votes to repeal or undermine the law, the GOP assault on the health security of millions of Americans – especially during a deadly, global pandemic -- has proven to be a fool’s errand and an obscene waste of taxpayer dollars. I urge leaders in my home state of Georgia to stop obstructing and working to destroy equal access to healthcare and expand Medicaid immediately.”
