Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Sites, IRS, State Free File Programs Help Eligible Georgia Residents File Their Taxes For Free

CLARKSTON, GA – Today, Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-4) urged eligible Georgia residents to use free tax preparation assistance to save money at tax time during a visit to the Clarkston Community Center’s volunteer income tax assistance (VITA) site, where taxpayers can receive free tax preparation assistance.

VITA returns to Clarkston Community Center on Saturday, April 5 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Rep. Johnson also highlighted the IRS and Georgia Free File programs, which help taxpayers prepare and file their taxes online for free using name-brand tax preparation software. Georgia is one of 21 states plus the District of Columbia that sponsors a State Free File program, allowing eligible residents to easily and accurately complete both their federal and state taxes with trusted name-brand tax preparation software of their choice.

Free File allows low-and-moderate income taxpayers to use name-brand tax preparation software to prepare and file their federal and state returns online for free. Both Free File and VITA empower taxpayers to claim every single deduction and credit they are entitled to, including the often missed Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

“The Free File and VITA programs help low-and-moderate income Georgia residents by ensuring they receive every credit and deduction they deserve come tax time,” said Rep. Johnson. “These programs are an excellent example of of how the government and the private sector can work together to the betterment of our communities.”
