Congressman Johnson on President Trump Pardoning Joe Arpaio
August 28, 2017
Congressman Hank Johnson released the following statement after President Trump signed a Presidential pardon for the release of former Maricopa County, Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was found guilty of criminal contempt after illegally targeting Latinos:
The pardon of convicted Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was found guilty of racial profiling Latinos and violating their civil rights, should tell us all that President Trump does not respect the rule of law. Once again, our Contrarian-in-Chief defaults to discrimination and bigotry instead of upholding the human and civil rights of Americans.
