Rep. Johnson’s statement on MLK Day 2018

January 15, 2018
Press Release

DECATUR, GA – Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) released the following statement after participating today in Martin Luther King, Jr. parades in Rockdale and DeKalb counties:

“King Day 2018 brings to mind how tenuous the freedoms gained from scores of years of progress can be squandered should we fail to learn the lessons of history. Today, as I attend and participate in parades throughout the district, I’m reminded that if we apply what history has taught to today’s reality, then like Dr. King we will let freedom ring.

Our reality is that forces want to take America back to a time when freedom was not for all, but only for select property owners.

Our reality is that our future lies in our own hands. Our future lies within the warmth of our hearts beating with the rhythm of respect for the lives of all.

Together with others of good will with love in our hearts for those who oppose our noble quest we will create a world where all people are equal and able to live in peace and prosperity where we respect and live in harmony with Mother Earth.

A world where justice reigns from every mountain to every molehill where all people are free at last!”
