Rep. Johnson’s Get Lit-A-Tour brings resources to youth
Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04) has launched his “Get Lit-A-Tour” to connect one-on-one with youth and young adults.
The creative play on words for the Lit-er-acy events will provide students with an opportunity to tour options that are available as they make critical decisions towards post-secondary education and future careers after high school.
The tour kicked off on August 25 at South DeKalb High School in Decatur. With the help of iHeart Radio, the 100 Black Men and celebrity disc jockey “DJ Scream,” the Congressman told hundreds of high schoolers about the importance of education and following their dreams.
Financial literacy and STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art and Mathematics) education, were just two of the subjects discussed with students at the August 25 event.
“My office has already been very active in reaching out to our youth in separate capacities. This initiative brings all that work together under one roof,” said Rep. Johnson. “This is a new push to get youth and young adults on board with making a better way for themselves.”
Congressman Johnson has launched this initiative because he realizes that high school students may find it difficult to make decisive decisions when it comes to their many post-secondary options. The goal of this initiative is to share information that can ultimately help young people make educated decisions about their future, as well as, close the achievement gap in our communities.
The Get Lit-A-Tour will serve as an extension of the initiatives the Congressman currently offers to our youth and will be hosted at other schools in Georgia’s Fourth Congressional District in the near future.
Congressman Johnson will continue to reach out to youth through his annual Congressional Art Competition, Internship program, Service Academy, Congressional App Challenge, The Congressional Award; and other scholarship opportunities.
To date, Congressman Johnson has awarded over 26 million dollars in scholarships to deserving 4th Congressional District students.
